【ANSO联合研究中期进展】微塑料污染对脑健康及生殖健康的影响
Under the guidance and support of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), Dr. Lei Li from the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences, leads the joint research project titled “Impact of Microplastic Pollution on Brain and Reproductive Health and Disruption of Organ Barrier Functions” (Project No. ANSO-CR-KP-2021-12). The project aims to investigate the health effects and underlying mechanisms of microplastic exposure, enhance public awareness of plastic pollution, and provide experimental evidence to support global solutions for plastic governance.
Since its launch over a year ago, the project has made encouraging progress in joint research, international collaboration, and increasing the visibility of both the project and ANSO. Leveraging SIAT’s strengths in brain science and reproductive health, the team has achieved a series of significant results in studying the physiological impacts of microplastics and associated organic pollutants—particularly on the brain–reproductive organ axis. These findings have been published in leading journals such as Journal of Hazardous Materials, Science of the Total Environment, Chemosphere, Toxics, Environment International, and Environmental Pollution. Notably, some of the research outcomes have been cited in the World Health Organization’s most recent report on microplastic pollution (WHO, 2022).
